Further to last weeks post

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Question1287357.html

Results just back (comfortably before sqad's prediction of 'Christmas') - "no lesions or evidence of any other lung or heart problems".

Which does still leave the "Why the **** am I coughing so much" question.

GP thinks that it's not an infection (been going on too long without either getting better or going critical) - so first idea is to break the cycle of inflammation with some high dose steroids for a few days.

All in all, though, I'm a lot less worried than I was an hour ago :+)

Great news Dave !!

Feel better soon Masma. xxx
Dave, I didn't see your post last week but I am so pleased for you with your good news.

Best wishes. xxxx
Fingers are still firmly crossed Anne.. Mr M and I were away at the weekend leaving him on his own for the first time since the 'carry on' all seemed well on our return! Thanks for good wishes xx
Dave.. Prednisilone (steroids) are marvelous little pills ;-) I'm on 30mls at the mo.
great news masma, ( sorry again dave for using your thread )
Yes....sorry Dave.
Sunny-d, thats good news that they haven't found anything nasty. X
Can I just ask, are you on any other tablets at the moment?
Mr S had a terrible cough for over ten months, backwards and forwards to GP, given inhalers, various tablets and cough meds with no change,
then they realised that it must be an ACE Inhibitor cough, caused by the tablets that he was taking for his high blood pressure/ heart problems.
Tablets were changed and the cough went.

Sorry for going missing for the evening - holding Gizmo's paw during the fireworks.

Hope your results are good, masma.

Not on any other meds at moment, sparkles

Don't know whether pills or inhaler until I get the script tomorrow, sqad

And thanks for all the good wishes from everyone else

D xx
I had a cold last April and spent 10 weeks coughing afterward. I got an asthma inhaler, plus some antibiotics (can't remember which) and it finally cleared up. It was tickly rather than chesty, but it just wouldn't stop for all that time. Very tiring.

no lesions

Not lesionnaire's disease, then.

I don't want to be a pessimist but did you see the TV documentary last week about the inadequacy of X-Rays and NHS screening in general

European and American specialists stopped using X Ray screening years ago because they reckon they spot just 1 in 7 of the lesions that a scan reveals
Zeuhl.........screening means........X-Rays WITHOUT symptoms.

X-Rays WITH symptoms are perfectly adequate.

thanks - gotcha

so what do you think of the argument that screening (without symptoms) with scans detects problems earlier and enables early (life saving) intervention?

x rays with symptoms miss early signs and detect problems that are more advanced and so more life threatening?

\\\\so what do you think of the argument that screening (without symptoms) with scans detects problems earlier and enables early (life saving) intervention?\\

Screening for what?

Breast....I am not a fan of breast screening and in my opinion it leads to a lot of unnecessary surgery.

Chest X-Rays.....40 years or more ago, it saved lives by early diagnosis of TB, but now routine chest screening has little part to play.

Screening by MRI is the step forward, particularly with aneurysms of the abdominal aorta, but apart from a few pilot trials, is only available privately.

This is not an exhaustive summary of the subject of screening and is my personal opinion, probably not shared by others in the medical profession.
