Ultimate example was the film Josie & The Pussycats - everything was branded - even the carpets. Not sure if it was meant to be ironic... The BBC have strict rules about it, but ITV is a commercial channel.
The advertising standards agency have rules about it too. It's not allowed on TV. Props can be used but must not be overtly placed as to promote the products they represent. For axample you can use an Audi A4 in a scene but you can't allow the camera to settle on the badge, thus identifying the car as an Audi A4.
