Second Infection In 3 Months

In August this year I phoned my GP about pains in the upper chest and down my right side. I was advise to call 999 and ambo men did the obvious ECG and found heart OK (phew!).

Took me to A&E and was then diagnosed with fluid retention and consequent sepsis. Had a cathater fitted when they drew off large amount of water (2 litres) and was put on intraveanous antibiotics.

Must admit I didn't know too much about the next few days as was on another planet for most of the time. Was inpatient for 2 weeks and then allowed home with cathater still in and I am really just waiting to see a specialist on 21st this month.

A routine test for diabetes revealed that I have now - today - got another water infection and must begin another 7 days tablets.

Am I likely (or more susceptable) to get these for the rest of my days?

I can't answer your question, because i am not privy to the investigations that you had whilst an In patient.

You will know the answer on the 21st of this month.

there is this stuff called Bayesian Stats which calculates a probability on the information of what has gone before.

You have had two infections in the recent past are you more likely to get a third infection than someone else off the street getting his first ?

and I would say Yes....

I am non med - a famous doctor called Meadow got his stats spectacularly wrong in court and ended up without a licence......


but as Sqad wisely says it is something you should ask your specialist.
