There was a question tonight which Anne Robinson started but never finished. It mentioned a Ford Escort being sold for 300,000. Anyone know what the answer would have been? Whose was it? Google hasn't helped for once.

I think it was an Escort World Rally Championships car, an Escort only in name, far more technically advanced than anything Ford put on the road!

Thanks, madein1978, but Donnamp found that it was Princess Diana' Ford Escort (present from Charles) - sold in 1998.
Found this - could this be the reference?

"The asking price is considerably higher than that for the Ford Escort of Diana, Princess of Wales which was sold for 300,000 in 1998,..."

Thanks Ethel, was that the Times article? Should have said that Donnamp's answer was in the Quizzes & Puzzles section.
Who'd have thought it! A Ford Escort in 1998 brand new would have cost from 10k, but because it has got the name Diana Windsor on the logbook, it increases 30 times! Hope whoever bought it is looking after it!
Not only that, madein1978 it was probably one he bought her in 1981..another Escort of the same year would probably set you back around 50 :o)
