Cat with a hot nose...

I have heard in the past that if you think your cat is ill or under the weather, touch its nose. If the nose is hot it means that the cat is ill. Cant remember where I heard this, but may be ab urban myth?
Any good tell tale signs of a cat feeling under the weather?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The problem with the theory is that the normal temperature for house cats is around 101.5 degrees F (38 to 39 degrees C) and that's going to feel quite warm to you, whose body temperature, I assume, is about 98 degrees F (36.6 degrees C). Cats will normally display other symptoms, especially being off their feed or lethargy, rather than a detectable temperature change. If you're going to measure their temperature accurately, you're gonna need help... they don't take kindly to anal thermometers... I suppose you could, somehow, entice the cat to hold one in its mouth...
