I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia on a £10 per month contract with Virgin & I am not using it very much,I was previously on PAYG. I have been in touch with Virgin to see if it would be possible to revert back to PAYG & have been informed that I would have to cancel the contract & pay them £275,would this be standard practice ?

I'd have thought so. Presumably you got the handset for free when you took the contract... something you wouldn't have got if going on PAYG...
I'm afraid it it, Ron.
They heavily discount swanky 'phones because of the expectation they have in recouping the cost, etc. over the contract period.

I rather think you are 'locked-in' until the contract expires.
they all do it ron

Thanks for your answers, that's what I thought Jack, never mind I must think clearer in future.

ron if you decide to end your contract get it in writing and keep for at least 2 years
I'm unsure how swanky a Sony Ericsson Xperia is. Would you expect to get £275 for it on an auction site ? That may be an option to recoup the money and start again.
Thank the lord that I only have(or should I say Viv has) the cheapest Sony Ericson mobile phone which operates on O2, p-a-y-g. We only use it for emergency purposes and Viv always takes it in the car if she is out by herself. Which she is this afternoon; visiting an old school friend; as is the case, every Thursday. Hence I have time to involve myself with AB. :-)
