Expensive Watch not Working

A friend of mine was given a Cartier watch for Christmas. She didnt wear it for a week, and now the time is six hours wrong - would she have to wear this watch every day to keep the correct time?

If it is an automatic watch, it is wound by the movement of the wearer's hand.

judie, you didn't specify as to whether this is a mechanical watch or a battery watch. If it has a "second hand" it will click on one second at a time if it is powered by a battery. If it is a mechanical watch it may either need winding up, or if automatic, the wearer has to be fairly "athletic" to keep it wound up, especially a small ladies watch.

If it is powered by a battery, you will need to check the battery. Any good jeweller should have a battery testing device.

If the watch is powered by kinetic energy then you need to wear the watch regularly otherwise it will lose time. I have a watch powered this way and it starts to lose time if it is left unworn for 2 days or more. The watch obtains its power from the most subtle of wrist movements so you certainly don't need to be an athlete to create enough energy to keep the time accurate!
