I am due for a knee-joint replacement op soon,I know the medics are good and I'll be grateful to have it done but I'm worried the skin on my shin area seems very tight against the bone and I'm worried that when they stitch me up after, because of the tightness, the stitches might 'pull-through' can anyone reassure me this will not happen? Does human skin 'stretch' to accomodate for re-settlement ormay they use a type of superglue or dissolveable adhesive strips? I'm grateful for any advice.
I am sure the surgeons will have done this many times on people with all many of physique, never be afraid of asking them. Good luck with it am sure you will feel a great improvement.
If the stitches do "pull through" it will have nothing to do with the "tightness" of your skin and will be due to infection which is an unusual complication, but may occur.
Not to worry about "tightness" as there are "surgical tricks" that can overcome this when sewing up.
The op is on the knee and hardly goes to the shin area. When my good lady had both of her knees done she had the surface wounds closed with glue so no stitches to worry about.
My friends mum had this op last week and her wound is closed by staples (she is a lady of large build, I don't know if this has anything to do with it)
