I don't know if I pace purposefully, but I do wander around when I'm on the phone. No idea why. I just have the urge to get up, that I don't have at other times.
I used to watch people walking in the street chatting away on their mobile phones, stepping into the road without looking and being hit by a cyclist going the wrong way down the street, great times.
A long time ago I heard that if you walk or stand when you are on the phone, especiailly if it is a business call, it makes you feel and seem more confident and able to "close the deal".
Probably something to do with increasing blood flow around the body and taking the mind off any feelings of anxiety by distracting it.
Hi Cailin, I don't think our brains ever switch off from multi tasking so we feel a need to pace. It's much more interesting to pace than be static. Also I think movement helps us concentrate on the conversation as the act of walking to a degree blocks out the things that are happening around us.
I pace a lot on the phone, but we also have a fixed phone which I find very restricting now(didn't give it a thought before)Me walking all over the room does get on the wife's nerves though!!
