Quite a bit of snow but it was predicted. For once they got it right.

Because nowadays a lot of people seem to think the weather should do what it's told.

No snow in York but it's very cold, first time I've put the heating on during the day.

We have this every flipping year!

As soon as it snows, every news channel sends some poor sap to stand in it and talk about it, while getting their bits frozen off.

That's not news, it's weather!!!!!

I was around in 1963 when we had a proper winter, the snow and ice lay for weeks, and then in 1976, when everyone baked for an entire glorious summer.

Both were reported ad nauseum by the media, and with rolling news, that has only got worse.

So - for the record -

I have lived here in England for approaching sixty years - I am no longer amazed enough to need to see snow on my tv news, I know what snow looks like, I probably drove to work in it that day.

Can we accept that this is England, it's November, and snow is a likely occurence?

What nex? - 'Shock! Horror!! It went dark last night!!!!'

Butterbun - I just dislike having my intellignce insulted in this way.

I know what snow looks like, I know about the chaos it causes, because it is never any different.

People will moan that other countries cope why can't we?

Answer - their climate and snowfall are fare more predictable, so they can resource responses in a way that is not cost effective here.

Schools will close and parents will moan about their 'babysitting service' being removed - blame the government's health and safety policies, and the willingness of litigious parents to sue local authorities if their child falls over on the ice.

It's the same every year, ergo, it's normal life, and that is not news, so why do tv stations pretend that it is?

whether it's happened before or not, snow is still news. Road and railways are at risk of being obstructed; at worst it hits airports too. Given that most people travel, even if it's only a commute, this is something that will affect the daily lives of many.

That's a separate issue, and can be filed under Travel News, which specifically advises people of disruptions.

The fact that it is snowing is not news - and there is no need to film a reporter getting snowed on - just tell me, I'll understand, I know what snow is!!!
