Eye of the Beholder?

Watched a film on BBC2 last night with Ewan Cameron and Ashley Judd. (Eye of the Beholder). One of those films that when the credits rolled I asked myself.................what the hell was that about? Did I miss something? Can someone explain the mad plot? Or was it just one of those weird films?
