Can a Smart Television be operated without the Smart option. i.e. used without being plugged into a router - with the signal coming from the TV arial as a non- smart TV would?

Yes, ours does.
I can't imagine why it would not. It would suggest if your router went down one day you'd be without TV ! Who'd buy into that ? But of course without the Net connection you will lose the "smart" funtionality.
