I'm afraid I cannot answer the question as I am neither a litterbug nor a Wiccan, but I have found cassette tape in a large oak tree near my house. Being a nature-lover I tried to pull it off but it was impossible: it was tied on very tightly in hundreds of places and far too high for me to reach without a ladder. This was quite clearly not the work of an "angry driver" but it was certainly someone with deliberate intent - whatever that intent may be. Think through the angry driver litterbug argument: out of which window would the driver naturally throw it? It's unlikely to be the passenger side. And yet where do you see cassette tape? Mostly on the grass verges. And if it got snarled in the player, would the driver (whilst driving) really pull all of the tape out of the cassette and throw it out of the window? And if he/she did somehow do this and throw it out of the passenger window, wouldn't it just fly in a clump and land on the tarmac rather than spreading itself out for long stretches along the grass verge? I have certainly never in my life done this, nor have I ever been tempted to, so the "we've all done it" argument just doesn't hold! And if someone "couldn't make it to a dustbin" what were they doing walking along the hard shoulder of a motorway or dual carriageway? That's an awful lot of crazy people listening to their 1980s Walkman whilst walking along very dangerous roads and refusing to take their rubbish home! Your Christian friend's answer sounds positively plausible to me!!
