Hi, my relative was knocked off her 90cc motorbike the other day. She's OK but the bike needs some repairs. She has legal cover on her insurance so she rang them with all the details and they said they would arrange a hire bike while hers is being fixed. The problem is that they need to see her licence and CBT. Her CBT ran out a few months ago and she hadn't realised.

So, she went to the local training place and got a new one but this was dated 2 days after the accident happened. Now her insurance company want to see it.

My question is will the insurance proceed with the claim despite her not having a valid CBT on the date of the accident? I suspect not.

Possibly not...... or might deal with the claim but won't pay for the hire bike. She needs to look at her small print on the policy.

why can't she show them the old one, that's relevant to the claim

The old one expired a few months ago, she didn't have one when the accident happened.

Basically she should not have been riding the bike then! My daughter's ran out a couple of days before she could get an appointment to renew it. I had to take her to the test centre because they told her she wasn't able to use her bike until after she had got a new certificate.

So, am I right in thinking that her insurance would not be valid without a valid CBT?

I wouldn't think so. It's like driving a car on a provisional licence.

Thanks for all your help, maybe she should get the repairs done herself without involving the insurance then.
