i have to do an essay on Authur Millers death of a salesman, the question is, "willy loman is a selfish character who chooses the cowards way out" Discuss how millers presentation of the character allows the audience to agree or disagree with this statement. my teacher gave us a list of what each paragraph should be about, 1: character talking about themselves, 2: character talking with others, 3: stage directions explanation of character, 4: themes of the play/ context for audience, 5: audience awareness of theatre traditions. i dont see how any of these apply to the question and im very very confused, i need to write it for tomorrow, well acctually i needed to write it for last wednesday, but im not very good at writing this sort of thing. anyway, im finding it really difficult, so any help or tips would be greatly appriciated thanks nikki.

I can't remember any details of the play, but... well, what do you think? Is he a selfish coward or not?

When you've answered that question, ask yourself why you gave the answer you did. Was it because of something he said himself, or something other characters said about him? Was it something that other similar plays recalled to your mind? And so on. The question seems to be worded quite helpfully, but above all it's asking for your own response. Do you have one?
