Now that winter is well and truly upon us and the clothing for dealing with such inclement temperatures becomes increasingly garish, do you have anything odd/funny/weird/wacky that you wear to keep away the winter chill but is a source of hilarity for your friends/family?

That's my hat above, it's a source of amusement to young ChillDoubt that the 'old man' wears such a monstrosity but given its Cold War significance (no pun intended) I'm rather fond of it.

I did used to wear a rather fetching tweed cap in inclement weather - but being referred to as 'the old git in the cap' got a bit wearing eventually and I upgraded to a Berghaus beanie ... ... so now I'm 'the old git in the burglar hat'.

anneasquith, oops, but I bet they do. Thanks, WR, I'll check out the shipping.
Stewey, come back to Newcastle. They sell them on the market.
On the "Stones", Tilly?
Stewey, you don't look like Rab C. Nesbitt, do you?
A bit further up, stewey. Near the pet food stall. Just past the oatcake shop.
Psybbo, never heard of him. Tilly, is Cheadles the butchers still there?
Yes, stewey. Still there in the High Street.
I am no where as erotic and exotic looking as him, Psybbo.
Prior to moving over here we lived at 65 Stafford Crescent, Clayton. We used to sneak into Trentham Gardens the back way...Loads of fun!
What school did you go to, stewey?
St Mary's on Stanier Street, where my uncle owned a sweet factory, and then a school on London Road, St Patrick's?
No, don't know them, Stewey. Not Thistley Hough or Clayton Grammar then?

Clayton is posh.
We use to wear string vests in the Alps which were made of fairly thick string, under a thick wool shirt. If you had to make a bivouac and slept in them the pattern impressed on the skin lasted for a day. Not much use when soaking wet though!
When I lived there, the school on Clayton Lane was girls only.
I have an electric heated foot muff which my daughters bought for me, lovely and toasty, but you have to remember you have both feet in it, if you have to get up to answer the phone!
