PC shop?
Are you sure you want 40gb of memory?? Perhaps you mean hard drive?

That was a given, I resisted the temptation.

If you mean add 40Gb of hardrive space - get a USB external drive -
Western Digital do some goodies.

If it has to be easily portable - I saw a dainty 40GB portable USB drive in Dixons - but it was expensive at around 100.

I have an external Western Digital 80GB - it's not tiny - but I carry it around sometimes.
This is what we did to expand storage on my friend's laptop.
Bought an 80 Gb 2.5" USB2 drive
Used Exact image to transfer everything from the internal to the USB drive.
Swapped the innards of the USB drive with her internal drive (very easy, and takes about 10 minutes).

That way she ended up with a large internal drive with no extras that needed to be permanently connectd, and a useful external drive for archiving stuff.
