The people who have applied to the Parades Commission in NI to hold a protest march through Belfast tomorrow, which will undoubtedly impact on the business of city centre shops and may well lead to serious violence, won't be named by the commission as they think to do so would be against the act. Yet people are compelled to have their names and addresses available to all on the electoral roll. Is data protection in a muddle, or what?

There are two versions of the Electoral Roll, a full one which only certain folk are allowed to read and an edited one which can be read for a fee and folk can opt to be excluded from the edited version.

Corbyloon, anyone can read the full electoral roll by viewing it in person at the place it is kept, usually a civic centre, council house, town hall or library.
Only certain people can have a copy or view online.
