I was sick yesterday and had the fright of my life when it came out bright red. It looked like blood and, obviously, left me in a bit of a panic.
However, I ate beetroot on Thursday, could it have been that?
It wasn't much beetroot, like just one of those 'balls' in the vacuum packs, but there was a LOT of red in my sick.

Please can someone help me out.

yes that was my first question.

when I had a ileostomy it used to come out there as well.
sorry too much detail
I'd say it was the beetroot, that stauff will colour anything. My dad ate a whole jar once and had purple poo for a couple of days :)

Yes? Yes it was the beetroot?
I'm sorry to sound so dramatic, but I'm in a bit of a panic about it. Surely the beetroot would have gone in that time?
If you haven't been sick since I would say it would be the beetroot. Monitor the situation.
This was Thur and it is Sat ? - just wait
You havent been imbibing on red wine have you? Just a thought.
Whilst having no medical qualifications I do concur with previous comments. Whilst it was a fair old time between being sick and eating beetroot it's seems possible it's coloured everything down there. And no doubt I'll be told I'm talking nonsense but if it was blood and bright red I feel confident you'd have posted your second post, the next day, from hospital, since it would have suggested new blood to me. I'd have thought old blood would have darkened considerably, maybe even to black ?

But in your shoes I think I'd have annoyed the local A&E at the time, even if just to put my mind at rest, but I think you're past that point now.
No....I don't think it has anything to do with beetroot.

Mallory -Weiss Syndrome.........Google it.

It should settle, so no panic..........however if it persists then go to A&E
Ah. Nothing beats medical training then :-). Trust me to get it all wrong.

Thanks for the further responses.
I've been so worried about this today that I actually made myself sick a short while ago, as I wanted to see if there was still "blood". There wasn't, it was just 'normal'.
Sorry to keep asking the same question, but would this be conformation that it was the beetroot, or can blood 'come and go'?
\\\\No....I don't think it has anything to do with beetroot. \\\

Don't you read the posts?
Question Author
I did read your post, sqad. I also Googled the condition you suggested... but... there is now nothing present in the vomit. Surely if it was blood yesterday, there would be something there the day after.
That is the whole point of the Mallory-Weiss it is most commonly a "one off" and may not reappear again.
You ate the beetroot on thursday and you were sick on saturday. The beetroot surely couldn`t have still been in your stomach 2 days after eating it.

Ok, thankyou. I think I'm going to go see my gp in the morning.
More for peace of mind than anything else.

237sj, well yeah, that was my original thinking, but it seemed a bit of a coincidence.
The thing is though, I only ate a small piece of the beetroot, and there was a hell of a lot of red in the toilet bowl.
