Hamster

my little girl's hamster has two little marks either side of its body, the hair doesnt grow there and he itches it sometimes. Otherwise he is fine and healthy. What could be wrong ? Bringing him to the vet seems a bit drastic and costly, when he seems fine in every way, and he's had these marks a long time.

Scent glands?

All hamsters have scent glands. These glands communicate presence, territory and sexual status to other hamsters. Syrian’s have one on each flank, and these may be pigmented and slightly greasy. Dwarf hamsters have a single gland on the middle of their belly, near the navel. This is not usually pigmented, but is often very prominent and usually greasy, yellowed or even wet looking.

I agree with pasta. I looked this up when we got our hamster. It's completely normal.

Thanks for that help, that is what is must be. Thank goodness no trip to the vet .
