With some exceptions, a retailer (not the manufacturer) is responsible for correcting anything that goes wrong with an item due to an inherent fault for a period of 6 years after the purchase of an item. An 'inherent fault' is one which was there at the time of purchase, such as poor manufacturing standards or the use of sub-standard components). However after 6 months from the date of purchase there's no automatic assumption that a problem must have occurred due to an inherent fault; it's up to the customer to prove it (or, at least, to show that it's the most likely cause based upon the balance of probabilities).
So your legal rights are against the retailer, not the manufacturer, but you might struggle to show that the problem has come about through an inherent fault.. In the first instance, it might be worth contacting Samsung UK to see whether they're prepared to assist you:
