Time To Get To Clocking In Machine - Being Totally Picky Here But ...

At work it takes 3 minutes to walk from the front gate to where the clocking in machine is. I'm being pedantic but this adds up, shall I quantify the cost to me and bring it up in good humor with the boss? :-)

Where I worked, I had to be ready and changed into uniform for handover 10 minutes before I was due to start work so I could receive handover and ready to begin my duties on the hour. I didn't really agree with it because receiving handover was actually working, but it wasn't a problem.

Where I used to work the' clocking' was in a hut by the car park, people used to clock in on their way to park. On the way out they would get the car first and jump out of the car to clock on the way out. They stopped that by moving the time clocks to the work area. The company gained around 1/2 an hour per person per day.
Where I used to work the clocking machine was on the 14th floor where we worked so you can imagine how long it took us to get up there by the time we waited for the lift which would then usually stop on most floors.
But by the same token as many have stated your time doesn't start until you actually start work, so many of my co workers spent 5 mins getting to the floor in the lift, clocked in and then spent another 5 mins making tea/coffee so it works both ways.
