Viral Meningitus
8 Answers
Hi, this is my first time using AB. My sister had viral meningitus 30 years ago when she was 31. She was diagnosed promptly and had a Lumber puncture to confirm diagnosis. She is convinced that it has affected her ability to retain information and has affected her memory badly. I have Googled it but cannot find any thing relating to something that happened 30 years ago, it is all recent diagnosis. Is this possible, is there anyone that knows if this can happen.

A 2012 online survey of 450 respondents, on behalf of the UK charity Meningitis Trust (which has since changed its name to Meningitis Now), found that 50% of people who'd had viral meningitis subsequently experienced problems with memory loss: http://www.m eningitisnow .org/about-u s/news/viral -meningitis- survey-resul ts/

Please don't take this as a callous reply but if the Meningitis had caused any knock on to memory loss, how would knowing makes things easier ??
Could it be that she is worried and looking for a cause ? If this is only recent and out of character she should mention it to her Doctor.
Welcome to AB, we are a good bunch.
