Lately my laptop is very slow to start up. It says that the website is not responding and says press to recover webpage. Then it says that Windows is checking for a solution. Eventually it starts. Lately a message has appeared asking if you allow a website to make changes to your computer. I always cancel this. Now today a message has popped up saying: Reminder. Your computer is NOT Backed up. Back up Your Files Online today. Free computer backup available.
What do you think is happening and can anyone please advise? Thank you.
The only reasons that I can think of as to why its looking for a website on startup is that you either have a desktop picture that is actually linked to the internet, or you have a virus or other nasty.
If its not the desktop, download and run malwarebytes
Clear your cookies/history to begin with - easily done on Chrome or I/Explorer - see if that improves things. If not go the malware route suggested by Tuvok - you don't have to buy the whole thing....just get the front free part.
You might not want to try this but instead of the Windows Task Manager I use AnVir Task Manager Free http://www.anvir.com/ which has the advantage that it lets you see which program is responsible for a pop-up window. So if I had this problem then I could use Anvir to tell me what is responsible for giving me the reminder and then I could decide what is to be done (uninstallion, settings changes, or whatever it might be).
You have the pest MY PC BACKUP installed and you will have to remove it . You can use a uninstall program called IOBOT UNINSTALLER 3 to remove it the program is free. But you will also have to go into the registry to see if it removed from there as well. If you are on Windows 7 you should be using IE 11 which is now the default for Windows 7 ,8 and 8.1 it is a very fast browser download it and try it or it might be already there as an update. Check your version from the drop down box at the top RH corner About Internet Explorer. Some times you may have to uninstall it and the reinstall it to get it to work ok.
