Payment for b+b
Hi, I have been to york and had a brilliant time. The b + b I stayed in wasn't the greatest, but one thing that did surprise me, is that when we got there, they demanded immediate payment. We had just got in the door after an eight and a half hour journey and hadn't even got our coats off. There wasn't even an hello, just a demand for money, given our key and told our room was on the second floor.
This set the tone for the whole stay. Very little conversation from anyone at breakfast, except asking if we wanted tea or coffee. They seemed more interested in arguing amongst themselves at the top of their voices about who should do what and the price of gas, the owner was very pleased as she only spent 6.33 a week. This was some what annoying as I had spent the nights being cold. Which I found out was because they turned off the heating at half past eleven and didn't turn it back on until six thirty. Baring in mind that we have just had one of the coldest weeks of the winter.
I know there is a difficult balance between being over friendly and friendly, but friendly seemed to have escaped their vocabulary.
When I have stayed at b+b's before I have never been asked to pay before I have seen the room, and usually not asked to pay until checking out. The one exception to this, I was asked to pay the following morning, after staying one night.
Just wondered what other people's experiance had been. thanks, Sandra

It sounds as if the place you stayed was bad anyway, even without the paying thing.
I would write a letter of complaint, and send a copy to the York tourist board as well.

On the Tariff page, it does say "Payment due in full on arrival", but they do use the word "friendly" on their web site. Maybe they have had a lot of people "do a runner", but at least they could be polite about it!
