i installed an asrock k8 upgrade vm800 main board to replace my socket a board but it will not boot.in the bios my pc3200 400mhz memory ( 1.5 gb) shows as 133mhz and this is the only prob i can see as the cpu shows corectly.do i need to install the board drivers first or should xp load generic ones ok as they have in the past.or do i need to format before installing as it is a different type of board.any ideas please...cheers.

do you get any morse code likes noises? At which stage of boot up does it get stuck at..

it just gets to the screen that gives you the option to start in safe mode or the last configuration that worked.there are no beeps from the pc.
Is your XP install clean or did you just plug the Hard Drive straight on to the new board?

I suspect you need to do a Repair on it so XP can reconfigure with the new hardware.

I would agree with Timm on this. If you simply plugged it in without updated drivers xp can sometimes correct itself but most of the time it fails...
