christenings and marriage

My partner says that you cannot get married in church if you haven't been christened or baptised. Is this true?

I was married in a church without being christened - my hubby wasnt christened either.

The vicar said he didnt feel it would be right to christen us just so we could get married so we didnt!

I guess its just up to the vicar of each church so I suggest you contact them and find out before you go ahead.

Yes I have been married twice in church and never been christened or baptised but you will always get the odd vicar that forgets the church is a place for all

It is normal practicce in a Catholic church for proof of baptism to be produced before a marriage is arranged - not so in the Anglican church, so it depends on the faith involved.

my mum was baptised but my dad wasn,t . the prist tried to persuade him to convert and become a catholic he wouldn't but the prist said he was glad of his honesty and married them anyway.

My newphew was due to be christened in a 'major ' church of the C of E. As his parents weren't married and his mum said she had no intention of getting married, the Bishop asked that as a sign of commitment (to the church and child) he would like the unchristened parent to get christened at the same time! They did it. So it appears to depend on a lot of variables including the views of your minister.

In a catholic church this is not possible.

My cousin had to get babtised before getting married to his catholic wife in a catholic sermon.
He could have chosen to be babtised protestant, though, if he'd prefered that.
