Let it Be was originally intended to be released simultaneously as a documentary film, with the album the soundtrack of the film. However, there were so many tensions within the group at the time that the project was a disaster and it got shelved. Consequently, in an effort to restore some credibility, the Beatles released Abbey Road. It was only as an afterthought that Let it Be was released.
