Retrieve Emails In Windows Live Mail 2011 Storage Folder

I have just re-installed Windows 8.1 (upgraded from Windows 8) and all is fine except I cannot retrieve emails in Windows Live Mail 2011 Storage Folder. I have many bits of info that I need to be able to get back so if anyone can tell me how, I will be very grateful. My previous attempts have indicated that I need to go to "View" followed by "Layout" but the Layout is "greyed" out so I got stuck there. Merry Xmas to all who read this. Tel

For a start before you install Windows Live Mail you have to turn on Net Frame Work 3.5 in the Windows Programs and Features as Windows 8 and 8.1 doesn't support POP3 . By turning this on Windows Live Mail will work as in Windows 7 and this should fix your problem give it a try.

Hi Thanks for help...... 3.5 is selected and so is 4.5.....what about the boxes "Windows Communications HTTP and Non HTTP ? should they be selected as well? Also do I leave 4.5 selected? Again my thanks. Tel
