History of PG Tips Brooke Bond first launched PG tips in 1930. Today the brand is established as one of the UK's number 1 tea brand and is a market leader in the UK tea bag market. In the 1930s tea was sometimes sold on its medicinal properties - indeed, one blend had become successful through a campaign directed towards doctors and nurses and was even sold in chemist shops. Tea was deemed to be an aid to the digestion. To challenge this competition, Brooke Bond introduced a blend known as "Digestive". After the second world war, however, the Ministry of Food would not allow Digestive as a trade description of tea, so Brooke Bond changed the name to PRE-GESTEE with, on the label, a disclaimer to the effect that "Brooke Bond do not claim any medicinal, nutritional or dietary value for their tea. Parcels of the tea 24 x lb packets, wrapped in brown paper for delivery to grocers) bore the letters PG as an identification and so the tea became known as PG Tips a name that has remained ever since its use in 1950-1. Pre-Gestee.
Synchography, Harley :)
Dear Indie, I hope you don't mind if I suggest you put an 'r' after the first 'h' to make it 'synchrography'. It really has to be there. Cheers
I thought it was Parental Guidance! You can't boil a kettle when you are young so you need a parent to oversee you making it!! hehehe (and yes I am blonde! and I am also joking!)
My apologies and thanks, Quizmonster :)

PG in PG tips were the letters used to identify delivery parcels for Unilever. So the name PG stuck. PG actually stands for PRE-GESTEE. This comes from the original brand name, Digestive, which was banned by the ministry of food after WW2. The tea was called Digestive because tea was known as an aid to digestion in the 30's.

hope this helps.
