Two Christmas gifts, from people who should have known better, were a bottle of whisky and another of wine. Both now poured down the sink. Have you received an unsuitable seasonal gift?

While there are window sills and necks on bottles that wouldn't be an answer.
no disrespect angel, but this particular gift was totally unsuitable, maybe even harmful, and the actions taken were totally appropriate,
When given a bottle as a present it is usually pretty obvious. I would have returned it to the giver saying something like 'sorry, I don't drink - you enjoy it instead'. The givers still don't know you don't drink alcohol so may well give you more in the future, try rowing good money after bad.
Throwing ^ not try rowing
Sherr, they knew, which means it was a very thoughtless gift.
I always say thank you when receiving a gift, and look pleased. What I do with them afterward is entirely my own business.
When I gave my son's partner a very nice black and white cardigan on Xmas Day she said, " oh I never wear cardigans." I said, I still had the receipt and she could change it easily, but she replied, "it's ok, I'll just wear it round the house!!!"

Manners!!!!!! Non existent.
that's rude chrissa.
Anngel, I don't think homeless shelters allow alcohol in.
To lighten the debate here, (IMO - it's up to Sandy what he does with his chalices):

A Methodist preacher here in Cornwall was completing a temperance sermon; with great expression he said, "If I had all the whisky in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."

With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."

And then finally, he said, "And if I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."

He sat down.

The song leader then stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn # 365: "Shall We Gather at the River."
