So Greece Is An Island?
17 Answers
Is this just a badly worded headline?
Has the reporter misinterpreted Greece's MotE statement 'failure to get rid of all illegal dumps was down to three reasons - problems in the local administration, the "island character" ?
Or does the reporter really think Greece is an island?

@Zacs,
The wording within the article is: -
-----
The ministry of the environment told me huge progress had been made on the issue but the failure to get rid of all illegal dumps was down to three reasons - problems in the local administration, the "island character" of the country, with around half the sites on cut-off islands, and local opposition to building proper waste plants.
-----
Some might prefer to see brackets instead of commas, for the 'aside' comment, e.g.: -
//the "island character" of the country (with around half the sites on cut-off islands)//
h.t.h.

Since the construction of the West India Docks in the early 1800s and until the redevelopment of Canary Wharf area, the Isle of Dogs was a true island as access to it could only be gained by crossing a stretch of water. The east, west and south of the island is bounded by a meander in the Thames and the new docks stretched across the north end of the island, with locked entrances to the east and west, thus completing the island.
During the Canary Wharf development much of the three “India” docks were filled in. One of the remaining docks (renamed “South Dock”) almost retains the cut off but about 50 yards of its western inlet have been infilled to allow access to the area via Westferry Road. So the “island” is no more.
