They recommend on my diet sheet to eat three portions of oily fish a week.Olive oil is O.K ..much more healthy than vegatable oil for example but eating it on a daily basis in large amounts would, I think be fattening .I do have the fish in oil sometimes but drain it well ..you still get the nice taste of the oil ..which you can mop up with wholemeal bread. Yummy !!
Nothing wrong with olive oil, but avoid the cheap supermarket stuff. The cold pressed type is best and tinned fish loses most of its goodness thanks to food processing.
Buy fresh salmon, tuna and mackeral, but not the farmed stuff and avoid fish caught in inland waters due to the pollution. Marks and Spencers provides good information about the source of their fish.
Go to the gym if you gain weight.
Best type of exercise is good brisk walking or swimming. Like Shaney I suffer from arthritis and exercise is far from easy. Gyms are horrible boring places what a false environment to exercise in. People kept very fit before the 'Gym Culture' took over by walking instead of using the car. I would love to run and jump, etc., but it's impossible.
Good old porridge oats can help to reduce cholestoral if eaten daily.
Oily fish in tins is fine. We would all love to be able to eat the best fish possible, but our finances don't always allow it.
