on the news just now apparently another bomb has gone off on a tram, many dead, is this trying to disrupt the country and its forthcoming sporting event, vile whichever way,
With reference to the comments by youngmafbog, plainly those sort of 'hands untied tactics' either do not work, or more specifically lead precisely to the sort of attacks that now happen, many of which are gestures of revenge for heavy-handed security. Without wishing to tempt fate, compare the number of suicide bomb attacks in EHRC-oppressed Europe with the number in Russia and you can see that simplistic arguments like that don't really wash
If a free hand to deal with terrorists was the answer the Russians would still be in Afghanistan. Many of the cities of Chechnya were reduced to rubble by them and suspects were routinely shot. Unbridled violence from the authorities isn't the answer.

I'm not sure how Afghanistan fits into this. It is a lawless country with a very inhospitable domain making it very difficult to control. Unfortunately we didn't learn from the Russians mistake and instead of going in to flush Al Qaeda out and then getting out we got bogged down.

they will deal with it, but as you say you have to know your enemy first, and lone bombers may not have families, nor leave traces of their existence.

weren't many of the Russians who went to Afghanistan conscripts?
