Eating Turkey

Is anyone still eating turkey?
The day after Boxing day we were back to normal food (lamb shank)

We are not, but the animals are having the last side of the crown.
Every year I get a smaller and smaller one, and every year it is more than we can eat.
Poultry is the last thing I can eat in either a casserole or pie form.

i quite like turkey and ham pie, i've not had any over xmas. i have turkey mince in the freezer, i might make a chilli later

Yes we love it in our family! Especially turkey sandwiches/rolls with lashings of home made cranberry sauce! Just frozen the last few pieces of turkey breast and have made turkey and veg soup with the carcass. Not keen on the dark leg meat so have made up 6 dinners of sweet and sour turkey with that and frozen them. Used 3 portions of breast for Christmas Dinner on christmas day then served cold turkey with other meats for buffet supper, gave some turkey breast to my brother, and made up 6 Christmas dinners for my Mum to freeze also gave her some breast meat to eat with salad which has lasted her all week!. I never throw ANY away and we had a 8kg butter basted one from Asda (£24) to which I added half pound of butter under the skin. It was gorgeous this year, so moist, best ever, unbelievable for a frozen supermarket turkey.

I was going to come on and ask about this, so I hope you don't mind me adding it to your thread.

Is it still ok to be eating the Christmas turkey? It's been kept in the fridge and in foil. Had a turkey sandwich last night, but suddenly wondered if it's still classed as 'ok', or should I bin it?

If it's in the fridge, and it smells OK, it's fine to eat - we'd certainly eat it.

If there's much left, take it off the bone and freeze it in user-size portions!

We didn't have turkey but I am about to have the last of the beef in a sandwich.....it might be quite a large sandwich!

We'll have chicken risotto tonight to use up the leftover chicken from last nights roast.

I has Christmas dinner at my son's and his wife was about to discard the remaining turkey in the bin. Both legs untouched and still loads of meat on the carcase because most of his guests preferred the chicken that was also on offer. I brought the turkey home with me and have made 2 portions of sweet 'n' sour and 2 of turkey curry to freeze. Had the last of the meat on a sandwich for dinner yesterday and the dog enjoyed all the scraps and some of the thicker bones from the carcase.

We have it for about 3 days in various form (ie the obligatory curry!) and then I freeze the legs and carcass for use later.

I`m making turkey, gammon and stilton pie tonight then the rest will probably be binned unless my Mum wants it to make stock. I might keep the gammon for another day as it`s been smoked.
