Is there no end to the myriad usages of tax payers money in the wastage and proliferation of inane ideas in the NHS.

But, seemingly, this isn't confined to a particular NHS Trust, it may well be endemic, (no pun intended)..

Is this another attempt to persuade us that obesity should be seen as "normal".... well NOT in my world!!

It's possible to change one's mind, isn't it? I certainly can.
Unless the suit itself weighs 10/20 stone, how is it actually helping?
tougher to change a spouses's mind, boxtops! Or so I have observed.
I've had no part in this, jno, it's nibble's thread :-)
I wondered that too - I suppose in truth if you actually added 20 stone to most people, they could not move at all, I know I couldn't.

Interestingly the lady in the video does say it was compressing her airways, which is another big issue for the bariatric patient.
I guess it might be about size as well as weight? - moving with larger limbs and abdomen that you are used to must be really difficult (and mine aren't small!).
Mamy...us she does say it restricted her airway

" Julia Tebb of the hospitals movement and handling team said " it restricts my airways."

Movement and handling team???whatever next?
It just doesn't sound very accurate to me. I've worn a blown-up sumo costume and could barely stand, but i doubt it's the same.
Dressing up as Mr Blobby for a few minutes is going to give you a deep and penetrating insight into the problems of....... drone, drone.

or be a bit of a laugh.

Well Sqad, though I am no fan of 'titles' as such, I thank the lord that good training is give. As quoted on this thread it can be devastating if it is your sick relative being moved.
Browntrout - as you will have read - understanding is one part of this, safety of both patient and staff is another.
Mamy...every sphere of the NHS can wave it,s shroud and say it needs to be addressed and it is now quite apparent that the scheme cannot afford it.
Yes, more money for A&E, more for mental disorders, more nurses, doctors midwives Etc Etc.

The money isn,t there and now is the time to realise that finance is not unlimited.

Everyone can give examples where money is needed.......but now, this alone doesn't wash.

It will get worse.
mamya, if it's a matter of patient/staff safety, i.e. an absolute requirement, then whether or not you do it shouldn't rely on charitable funding.
I agree all departments and disciplines need more money and indeed all waste some on needless things - it is also sad that charity needs to step in, but better it does if it can than not.
a relative was in hospital for few weeks, i noticed that by and large the biggest, roundest people, and i am being polite, were the staff, one nurse so big so hardly got through the double doors, and she wasn't wearing a fat suit. Doctors in hospitals, nurses don't necessarily take the advice they dish out.
