Sainsbury's have recipe leaflets in the store at the moment called 'Make your roast go further'
I picked one up today and there are some really good ideas for using up left over meat from a joint. We usually have cold meat and salad with our leftovers but I shall try some of these.
there were four of us kids, sherrardk, but this was after the war and people were still cooking pretty austerely and making things stretch out as long as possible.
Now that I'm not working and getting home at 6.30 pm with tonight's meal from Sainsbury's. I enjoy trying out different things to use up the food I have in the house. I used to spend a lot of money on food, Steak one night, chops another night, roast another night. Now, I don't have the money and try to make things go that little bit further.
Buy a pack of bacon pieces, most of the supermarkets have them for about £1, but the ones from Sainsbury are especially good. Last time I got some, there were whole rashers for sandwiches, 2 large bacon chops, and lots of pieces of rashers which I chop up, and these can be used for soups, pasta sauce, potato bakes etc. The bacon freezes well, so always have some as a standby, in portion sizes. From a single pack, there are at least three meals.
