Hi All, Advice Needed Re. Nhs For My Mother-In-Law
3 Answers
My mother-in-law turns 80 next week. Last summer she had a hip replacement op. All was fine and she returned to normal active duty.
Just before Christmas she fell over in the street. A neighbour took her inside and called an ambulance. At the hospital they only x-rayed around her hip as she was quite worried and it was the same side she fell over on. They gave her crutches as they say that they had found nothing and it could be a sprain. Last week, after spending all Christmas in pain (fortunately hubby was there) she went to her doctor and he said that she may have a fracture and that she'll have to wait for an appointment at the hospital for an x-ray!! Is this normal?
I asked my hubby why she didn't just go there as an emergency, but the doctor has told her to wait for an appointment. We're a little worried now as we don't live in the UK and my hubby is due to leave on Tuesday to come back.
It doesn't help that she lives on a steep hill. Is there anything we can do? Any advice welcome.

That is quite normal as presumably it was around the hip that was giving her pain.
\\\and he said that she may have a fracture and that she'll have to wait for an appointment at the hospital for an x-ray!! Is this normal? \\\
No that is NOT normal.
I presume that she is taking painkillers e.g Ibuprofen.
I agree with the post of 2sp.
