Vising hospital, I handed my watch to my daughter, saying, jokingly, "If you wear it, don't forget to wind it up" She said "Wind it up? " It turned out she never knew that watches were ever wound, she'd never seen one. The nurse, also about 25, asked" What happens when it stops? " "You turn the little button a few times to wind it" Nurse " Does it reset to the time?"

Apart from making in me feel old, I did wonder when they stopped making watches that you wound up.

Anything said to you that made you reflect and feel ancient?

When I go to the doctors with some ache or pain and they tell me it's wear and tear.
my young grandson saw my records for the first time and said can you put one of those big cds on, lol.
If I start any sentence, with the words "in the War" I get an immediate question from my nieces and nephews, "what war is that Uncle Mike ? "

Drives me mad ! Aren't kids taught about WW2 anymore ?
Of course they are, Mikey. They're just pulling your gasmask.
Similar instance recently, when I was explaining to a colleague that my watch was automatic.
She would not believe that:

A. My watch didn't require a battery

B. That it winds itself with the movement of my arm.

The doctor...the child doctor...who said I had passed out on York railway station because at 63 I was probably anxious or excited at traveling alone..
He won't do it again....☺
I have a Citizen Eco.It's solar powered so never needs a battery or winding.I love it.

Most young people today use their phone for the time. Not many of them wear watches.

I have a watch which does have a battery, but the battery is charged by movement of the wrist whilst the watch is being worn.

It is known to a young friend as dave's 'winkers watch' - at least I think that's what she said ...
Yes, I'm sometimes teased about how quickly I might be able to wind it........

The type that charge a battery 'should' be immune to overwinding - I certainly hope mine is given the bonkers price - the older automatics could get overwound I believe.
It makes me feel old when my kids refer to my youth as "the olden days"

Just before Christmas I was in a tiny local shop which has a chair for customers. A woman sitting there offered me the chair. She is a year older than me grrrrr

Showing my SLR film camera to an 8 year old, who said "what a funny looking camera, where's the screen?".
digital time is all younguns know, analogue is jurrassic (as Joey Essex) as for reading a 24h clock is worthy of a Uni degree in their eyes.

Respect - humbugs ;)
For Xmas, I treated myself to a Seiko Solar Divers watch. It should never need charging, unless I leave it in a drawer for a few weeks. No battery and its waterproof down to 200m, so it should be trouble free for many years !

I used to have a Rolex Explorer 2, which I bought 10 years ago. But it had to go in January 2012, to pay for a new gearbox for my car ! That was an automatic watch but had I hung onto it, it would have needed a Rolex service, which would have cost more than the Seiko, which was £168 !

I miss that Rolex though, I really do !
Playing board games over Christmas, two different games, both sets of rules said "the oldest person goes first".
