The important thing with food intake is that the number of calories in the food you eat should be equal or less than the calories you use during the day.
Some foods are very high in calories (Cakes, Biscuits, Pies, Pasties, rich sauces, sweets, Pizzas and so on) so you should eat few or none of these.
Other foods are low in calories AND good for you (fruit, vegetables, potatoes, pasta, brown bread, low fat meat such as chicken) so you should try to mainly eat these.
On average a woman uses about 2000 calories a day, a man about 2,500 (on average, can vary of course) so you should try to eat only these many calories each day (or less if trying to lose weight).
A mars bar is about 250 calories, a "Big Mac" meal with milk shake is probably about 1,000 calories, so although you can eat these they should be seen as a treat (once a week at most) and not a regular thing.
If you can cut fast food out your diet completely that is a good thing as they are also high in suger, salt and other "bad" things.
Dont try a fancy diet, just change your eatijng habits so you eat better food and you will gradually lose weight. It may only be a pound or two in weight a week, but over time it will mount up.
Good luck
I find that high protein foods like cottage cheese keep me really full when i could eat double there weight in junk and not be
Also salsa is really useful, i cook just about everything in salsa (stif frys, veggies etc) and its really low calorie
OOOHHH how could i forget, and where would one be, without sugar free jelly. 2 servings of sugar free jelly plus 2 tsp of splenda plus 2 ice cream wafers = 30 calories...great snack
