1) Book good hotel and flights for two people from 23/12/13 to 1/1/ 14, in Madeira

2)Book dogs into boarding kennel for that week ; in my case eight dogs

3) get told , on 13/12/13 by NHS that you must be in hospital for two days, being one night pre the investigating procedure and one day for the procedure viz Christmas Eve and the day before

4) Cancel hotel rooms and get instant refund

5) Flights non-refundable, but American Express Insurance indemnify in full

6) Cancel boarding kennel

Total saving £5,800.

Fred...I am so sorry to hear about this.

You are more important than anything else you know; hopefully it all gets sorted quickly and you have a good experience as possible while undergoing the procedure.

You know where we are if you get fedup or anything.

Fred..I'll be thinking about you. X

Update. How to save the government some money, too.

Have you ever had one of those mornings ? I have, Lots of bills in the post, and then a hospital appointment with the consultant, whose words translated as: "I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the tests show you have got cancer. The good news is that, with luck, you have two years to live, but, realistically, you have a year"

See? Have saved the government lots of pension money !
Oh Fred...... that's not good.. :-(
Fred, so sorry to hear your bad news, x
Fred, so sorry to read that, sending special thoughts to you. x
im sorry you have had that news today fred, any treatment suggested ?
Sorry to hear that Fred - us males are something of an endangered species on here and we can't afford to lose anyone - besides I enjoy your legal musings.

I just hope the consultant is wrong (it happens)

Dave xx
So sorry to read this Fred, xx
I'm so sorry to hear this Fred .
I hope you've translated it wrongly and that they offer you further treatment .
Keep positive xx
Oh Fred I hope there is something they can do, I'm sorry to hear this. I do enjoy reading your posts. xx

Frankly, I was already expecting this as a possible, even likely, outcome, hence my having my will redone (see above). Subsequent conversations with staff only confirmed it, though nothing final or definitive was said until the consultant and his little committee of various specialists had got all the test results The only surprise was the one year/ two year bit. I had been thinking of 3 to 5 !
Fred...you don't know how sorry I am to have read your post....

All my love...Gxx

The only question now is: Given that I had enough money to see me through 30 years (97 would be old enough for me; my mother was 93 when she died) shall I set about spending it all in two?
Sorry Fred.

far too early to call it a day - dear boy.
sleep on it for a few days and I will try to concoct some sensible advice.

Question Author
Best answer goes to boxtops because it is SO British ! LOL
I think given your optimistic nature, it will come naturally to you how to spend whatever time you have left - and make it special. x
