Is it just me who finds the Simon The Ogre Advertisement for Thomson Holidays very creepy. I really do not like it at all. Brrrr.

From an anthropological view I find it very interesting. Obviously Thomson are hoping to appeal to a female audience living in a nuclear family environment.
The female will put encourage the main wage earning man to book a holiday selling it on the premise it will de-stress him from the pressures of bearing the finanacial and emotional strain of family life. Who knows - he may even become human again?
Of course we all know it will end up on the plastic and he'll feel even worse than he did before.

As posted on the 'Adverts' thread, it's a metaphor that many people will relate to.
And it very neatly (for these cash straightened times) repositions the package holiday as a necessity of regeneration for parents with young families rather than an extravagance.
