They aren't lying if they believe it to be true. But i think it should be taught as the old-fashioned myth it is, rather than given as "truth". If it were true, it would be part of the science lessons.
I was also taught by nuns from age 5. They instilled in me that if I didn't attend mass I would burn in hell. No escape as a child. Since the age of 15 I have never been inside a church.
Certainly not in my school. The bible's version of creation was never mentioned, even in RE classes. What 7 year-old would believe it to be true? A visit to the museums in Cambridge would soon prove the opposite, let alone reading the Oxford Junior Encyclopaedia or the Children's Encyclopaedia, both staples of the home and classroom.
All religions are invented and Christianity is no exception. You were told a lot of irrational stories about God, just as you were told fairy stories about Goldilocks, Cinderela, etc. Children are lied to all the time.
Rejoice that you have now seen the truth and encourage others to do the same. Religious people...you have nothing to lose but your chains !
Nobody lied to me - "Of course God didn't create in world in six days - it happened over millions of years" - and this was a nun in Ireland over fifty years ago.
Why are children still 'being lied to today'? Are you talking about the UK?
Over 95% of faith schools in the UK are Church of England or Roman Catholic, and neither of these religions have, in living memory, any problem with teaching Darwinian evolution.
