A Hymn To The Tune Of The German Anthem...

Half listening to Sunday Worship I heard a Salvation Army band play this tune. What's the hymn called?

A Labour minister? Miming along to Red Flag? Do not remember that particular episode.

I do however recall very clearly a certain episode with John Redwood, then Secretary of State for Wales,caught on camera miming along to the Welsh National Anthem, to his very public embarassment :)

The Red Flag is still sung at the Labour Party conference. The practice of singing it fell into abeyance under Blair but Milliband revived it.

They only officilally sing the third verse these days modeller as declared in 1991 by Weizsäcker and Kohl after reunification .

The "Red Flag" song is not a communist anthem. It is a song dedicated to socialism - and communism and socialism are markedly different, although I note that many tend to conflate and confuse the 2.

Haydn wrote the tune "Austria" in (I think) the second movement of String Quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3. also known as "The Emperor". In that form it has saved the sanity of many more people than either Deuchland uber Wotsit or Glorious Things. Wonderful "Papa" Haydn!

I know another version of the German anthem, well known in Rugby club bars.
One verse is
