jane Forgive me for cross-posting but I thought that you would like to know my source of Service = WORTH.

It comes from the Chambers Crossword Dictionary (2001 edition) p 884. Under worth it gives (as 7-lettered options) ... quality, service, utility, ...

I believe that the Matlock setter uses this as one of her reference books. Good Luck!

Crofter, I have completly lost it, Nearly given up on this quiz, You say WORTH but what question does it refer to? I cannot remember what I was trying to solve, I think it was No 60. I'm so confused!!

However, I note that to fit the answer - the clue should read "Sceptres; service"!

Sorry jane, I seemed to have lost the plot somewhere along the line [mea culpa]

The answer to No 60 is CRANFORD. Looking up the synonyms for FORD in the same source (quoted above in my first posting) only three are given. They are ... drift, causeway and crossing!
