Last night somebody broke into my garage, they took a motocross bike and a remote control car and a load of tools. Gained entry through a side window, daughters car was parked in front of the garage, they smashed her side window so they could push the car back and open the garage.

Phoned insurance and guess what, I forgot to tell them when we converted the shop into a garage, so they say we are not covered as there is no record of us having a garage, that bit is my fault I know.

No question, just a rant.

Can't see the pic, traci - it's a pic of a canal?

Better to put it on AB's facebook page, then people can share it....
Question Author
Box tops, I've put it on ABs FB page, thanks.
That really is poopy, Traci.
Traci I would second Barmaids advice to you.

Can I ask you if by any chance your "garage" was adjacent to your private house,or on the same plot of land ? If the answer is yes, then depending on the actual policy wording there MAY be a chance of you having some success here.

My sympathies, Traci. Is anyone else sceptical about the fact that crime figures are going down? My mother's wheelchair has gone AWOL from a store in her sheltered housing complex. How low can you get?
Question Author
Sir oracle and barmaid, the garage is not attached to the house, but it is on the same plot of land, until 2012 it was a shop, even though it was closed in 2010, because we had to carry on paying business rates we converted to a garage and deregistered it as a business, the insurance have said that they didn't insure the shop and because we didn't inform them it was now a garage belonging to us and add it to the policy, we are not covered.
Traci You should carefully read your Household policy to get the exact wording concerning the extent of your cover. It may show a private dwelling house including other buildings at that address.

It is difficult for me to give you a definitive answer without a sight of your Policy.
Question Author
I will go through it with a fine tooth comb, but they have said that because it was previously a business, and we didn't inform them of the change, then it is not covered.

Thank you, I have made a note of that and will ring you when you get back, have to go to work in five minutes, have a wonderful time in Paris.

Well good news, the bike was posted for sale on a website, friend arranged a meet to buy it, police where there, bike recovered, that was Sunday, Monday morning received a call from police to say the car had also been recovered, tools already replaced and security upped on the garage, insurance now covering garage on policy, thanks all.
That's good news indeed
