Is there any way of finding out if a property is privately owned or is a housing association/council house?

ask the local council they should be able to tell you, even if its private
in other words not on their portfolio, they might ask why you want to know?
Bear with me, I was bored one day and typed the address of one of my neighbours into a well known search engine.

Although the double glazing and front door were as the council had installed them, they had bought their property and I found out a few other things too!
i wasn't bored but really curious and typed in a neighbours property, i knew it was private but not how much they rent it out for, fer crying out loud...
Do tell ??
if you type in the address of a property and there is no information, then presume it is council (don't know about housing associations)

Whist, I don't think Emmie or I will divulge :-D
Assuming that the property is registered with the Land Registry (which the vast majority are) you can download the title register (which will tell you who owns it) for £3:
http://eservices.landregistry.gov.uk/wps/portal/Property_Search

Alternatively, if the property has been sold since 1995 it will be listed (together with the price paid) when you enter the postcode here:

value on the market for over 600,000 quid, 2 bed property. fer funks sake
i don't know the what they rent it out for, but can only guess.
what nosy wee sausages you lot are ! lol...
