I've just discovered tapestry and would like to do my own from a patten. I have found one in an old book but need help please, its says 1 hank does anyone know what that would equal in anchor wool (10 mtrs)? Also its says 12 hole per inch and 20" by 20" if I wanted to do 10 hole per inch what size would I need for tapestry and border to make a cusion

I think that as a beginner, your best course would be to buy a kit.
That way you have everything you need.
Once you decide you like it, you will have a better idea of needs.
(Just my opinion)
what size do you want it to come out? How old is the book?
Have you thoroughly read the book, it may say somewhere what they mean when they say a skein. Anchor wool is 10m but I think DMC is 8m so not all skeins are equal. As for size of canvas, 20 x20 is a standard cushion size. If you want to change from 12 hpi to 10 hpi you will end up with a larger cushion, if you follow the pattern as it is. Say the pattern is 240 st x 240 st at 12 hpi that works out at 20 inches but if you stitch that same pattern on 10 hpi you would end up with a finished sized of 24 x 24 inches.
