Ipad Password

Honest folks, asking this question for a friend in need.
How can he unlock a password he set up over the New Year period, and has since forgotten. Could he do a full factory settings reset which I had to do on my iPad to regain sound after loading up iOS7?. Thanks guys

On some devices you can enter a wrong password ten times and then you are invited to reset. No idea if this will work on an iPad though.
