Contemplating a Monday to Friday visit to Chatham and surrounding area as we've never been and don't know that part of the country at all. Apart from the historic dockyard, what else is worth seeing/doing? Is there enough to keep us busy for 4/5 days? Thanks :)
First port of call was tripadvisor, I was hoping for some personal views though.
That's a great link baldric, thanks. Will bear Rochester in mind bodeker, and Canterbury too Eccles (you reckon 4/5 days is too long?)
Sometimes just a couple of days isn't long enough in a new area which is why we thought a bit longer. There are a number of rspb places which we intend to visit, along with any other interesting recommendations.
Personally I'd only spend a night in Medway. On day of arrival visit Rochester, stay over and then visit the dockyard the following day before moving on.
I suggested Canterbury as it isn't far from Medway and is well positioned for visiting places such as Faversham and Whitstable where you will at least get some decent food, something which I believe you appreciate.
Medway is quite a depressing place although you can find the occasional pocket with some charm.
Thanks Eccles, I really appreciate your honesty.
Just dug the maps out and have now had a complete change of destinations. Think we'll have a couple of nights in a few places, maybe Rochester, Faversham and Canterbury. We enjoy walking and the outdoors as much, or more than, visiting touristy places so maybe doing it that way would suit us better. Thanks again :)
If you are happy to move about and like walking take a look at The Ferry Inn on Sheppey. Overall Sheppey is a bit of a dump but The Ferry Inn is nice, in a good location and offers a rather satisfying wild outlook, it is quite rural and the wildlife is pretty good.
